Aesthetics of Nature

Sources & Translation Notes

How quotations are handled

This English edition follows one rule for quotations. Where a passage quoted in the Slovenian dissertation could be checked against its original English wording, or against a standard published English translation, that wording is used verbatim inside quotation marks and marked with a small ✓, which links to the source listed below. Where the edition consulted differs from the one cited in the dissertation, this is noted.

Where a quotation could not be verified – for example because the original is a Slovenian text, an interview, or an English work that was not accessible – it is given as a paraphrase without quotation marks, translated from the Slovenian. The author, work, page and footnote are kept exactly as in the original. This is why the English text contains far fewer quotation marks than the Slovenian.

Bracketed Translator’s notes point out wordplay, terminology and the few places where the dissertation’s wording differs from the original source.
